My Ongoing Experiment With Psychedelics

A little while back, I wrote about wanting to retry a psychedelic experience now that I’m older, wiser, and better informed. For a short recap, I am a lifelong sufferer of PTSD, ADHD, and depression who recently noticed that my very limited past periods of “defogging” seem to coincide with having recreationally consumed some form of hallucinogen.

I now wanted to try it again.

Well, I haven’t done it yet. My plan is to make my own and that takes a little time. Supplies have been ordered.

What I want to discuss is the second part of my plan. You see, in my research on this topic, the subject of “microdosing” came up several times. Microdosing consists of ingesting small amounts, or microdose, once every three days. The amount taken should be too small to feel any of the normal euphoric effects. The schedule I plan on following is this:

  • First Day: take the microdose
  • Second Day: rest
  • Third Day: evaluate any changes
  • Repeat

The few trips I’ve had in the past were when I was young and for recreational purposes. I had neither the knowledge nor the desire to be analytical of my experiences. I do now.

My purpose this time is for a scientific experimental healing process. Copious notes will be taken. Weights, dates, times, and effects will be documented. And maybe, just maybe, I can wean myself from Zoloft and Adderall.

So here is my overall strategy. When the time comes, I will take a 4 or 5gr dose. I’m on self-quarantine so whenever I feel relaxed and unstressed. Two days later I will write in a journal my feelings or changes or anything else that happens. Once a week from that point I will sit down with my journal and do the same thing.

This next part has no real-time constraint. Months(?) later when I feel some of my old symptoms reappear (check the journal), I will start my microdosing schedule. From this point, I’m not sure how to proceed. I’ve read two first-hand accounts of microdosing and both of these were for 30 days and then stopped. Does anyone follow this course for more than 30 days? If so, how long? Does anyone microdose indefinitely?

I have no answers to these questions, yet, so I plan to microdose for 30 days, documenting all the way and then stop, for 30 days. Depending on outcomes determines if I do it for another 30 days after.

We’ll see and, as always, I will keep you informed of my progress. If you have personal experience with microdosing, I’d like to hear from you. Leave a comment.
